Peter Cruythoff

Name: Peter Cruythoff
Variety:  Sauvignon Blanc
Region: Swartland
Country: South Africa
Year: 2015
Price: $5.95

Winery review:  Made in a definite herbaceous style, this Sauvignon Blanc also offers tropical undertones of gooseberries that add fruit to the palate. Well-balanced with zesty acidity, every glassful is fresh and crisp, and perfect for warm summer days.

My review:  With aromas that hinted of something very fruity and peachy, I was excited for the palate. It followed through with a great mouthfeel of peaches and floral-y notes. This was a refreshing crisp wine that I could easily put down in no time while out mowing the lawn or perusing a magazine on my front porch enjoying the nice warm breeze. Wine crispier than a honey-crisp apple, bravo.

The Pairing: I did not pair this wine with any food

My Score: 8.5/10

Terre dei Savoia

Name: Terre dei Savoia
Variety:  Nebbiolo
Region: Barbaresco
Country: Italy
Year:  2010
Price: $9.95

Winery review:  Red berry, rose, leather and baking spice aromas come together in the glass. The structured, juicy palate doles out ripe black cherry, licorice, roasted herb and tobacco alongside firm, velvety tannins. Still young and bracing, give this a few more years to fully develop. Drink 2016–2026.

My review:  Aromas of berries and spice were met at the top of the glass, and delivered the same with some leathery mouthfeel but balanced by the fruit. The finish was a nice amount of tanniny astringency. I enjoyed this wine.

Vigna Lenuzza

Name: Vigna Lenuzza
Variety:  Cabernet Franc
Region: Friuli
Country: Italy
Year: 2011
Price: $5.95

Winery review: With a ruby red color and with intense purplish reflections it has a nose of red fruits like cherry, raspberry, and blackberry, to spices like marjoram, rhubarb and white pepper. On the palate it is pleasantly fresh, not too heavy, with sweet tannins and with soft herbaceous notes, which are the traditional characteristics of the Cabernet-Franc.

My review:  An aroma of spice, and maybe some fruity notes on first take, this wine delivered a taste that was a lot to take in. For me it was on the heavier side at first with a dry tanniny mouthfeel. I wanted to take more away from it than what I did but just couldn't play everything in the description.

My Score: 7.1/10

Crane Lake Riesling

Name: Crane Lake
Variety:  Riesling
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2017
Price: $5.95

Winery review: This light-colored wine displays aromas of honeysuckle and orange blossom; flavors include green apple and peach. The finish is mildly sweet, crisp, and lingering. This wine is an excellent aperitif, yet it pairs well with a number of different foods. Try it with New England clam chowder, smoked salmon, Chinese chicken salad, roasted duck, or scallops in a cream sauce.

My review:  With a great smelling aroma filled with a fruit boutique this was exciting on the sniffer. I got a lot of notes of a full orchard, some oranges in there also. There was alot to pick out it seemed. The taste was delightful and sweet with a nice smooth finish for me. buy it.

My review:  This wine had an aroma of very fruity, sweetness. I got notes of apple on the nose. The taste was also sweet but however somewhat...spicy for me, but also fruity. very refreshing!

Wine Dinner #2

Wine Dinner #2

For our dinner I teamed up with Daniel Ball, Devin Skeens, and Hunter Sutherland and we prepared an amazing spread as follows,

To kick it off we had a nice appe-teaser to the tune of a nice log of sausage as follows...

Name: Barefoot Chardonnay

Variety:  Chardonnay
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2018

Price: $4.99

Winery review:  This yellow tail merlot is everything a great wine should be--- soft, velvety and easy to drink.

My review:  Whoever wrote this description should be bound at the hands and feet and thrown out into the bush in Australia to fend for themselves agains the dingos and kangaroos, because this shit was trash. I took a drink and spat...I spat it out. Under no circumstances should you ever exchange your hard earned currency for this hotdog blend status of a wine.

The Pairing: Paired with a log of sausage spiced with garlic, sandwiched between some crackers. The sausage was amazing and I didn't really entertain the pathetic excuse of a merlot.

My Score: 4/10  (only because this sausage was so good)

Main Course

Name: Beringer
Variety:  Chenin Blanc
Region: Sonoma, California
Country: USA
Year: ?
Price: $4.99

Winery review:   "Where the shops slowly fade into vineyards and wine country begins"
My review: This wine had a sweet aroma with hints of floral patches that are inviting to frolic gayly in. The palate was very nice and fairly sweet which I enjoyed. I got tastes of pear somehow.

The Pairing: This was paired with a beautifully prepared chicken from the most trap worthy ghetto Kroger that we all know and love. Haters hate. It was amazing with this wine and the chicken slightly "toned down" the slight sour that I got from the wine. They went very well together.

My Score: 8.1/10

Desert

Name: Bary Bridge
Variety:  White Zinfandel
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2017
Price: $3.99

Winery review:   Too cheap to spend time on a description

My review: This wine had a sweet aroma and the palate matched it. It was very good to pair with a dessert. It really had a sweet and sour taste.

The Pairing: We paired this with a nice petite chocolate cake with cherries on top. The taste contradicted one another but for some reason they really brought out the best in one another.

                                             My Score: 7.6/10

Wine & Cheese #2

Cheese 1

Name: Rex- Goliath
Variety:  Cabernet Sauvignon
Region: Acampo, California
Country: USA
Year: ?
Price: $2.95

Winery review:  Our wines area tribute to Rex the chickens Karger than life personality with a big, fruit forward flavors sure to please!

My review:  This wine was an amazing wine, I got a nice cherry aroma and the palate had a little oaky taste with a nice smooth finish and with the cheese it just offset one another in the right way to make great pair. Not to mention the price on this is a steal.

The Pairing: Paired with Morbier cheese, which was an amazingly soft and silky smooth that had a slightly nutty taste. It really enhanced the wine and made for a great pairing

My Score: 8.5/10

Cheese 2

Name: Flip Flop wine
Variety:  Pinot Grigio
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: ?
Price: $3.95

Winery review: Light bodied, refreshing Pinot Grigio with flavors of tropical citrus, ripe pear and a zesty, clean finish

My review: This wine was very good and smooth, very tropical aroma and pear tasting with a semi sweet taste. Such a crisp finish also.

The Pairing: Paired with Murrays Gruyere cheese. This cheese had slight grainy and crunchy feel in the mouth but had earthy tones and a slight nutty taste that was quite nice. When brought into play with the wine it wasn't out of this world but had a nice combo. I would recommend if hosting a wine and cheese trap party.

My Score: 7.3/10

Cheese 3

Name: Colorblock Red Blend
Variety:  Red Blend
Region: Valle Central
Country: Chile
Year: 2016
Price: $3.95

Winery review:  Our Red blend is an aromatic fusion of black plum, ripe cherry and chocolate notes. An exquisite match for marinated grilled leg of lamb or sautéed zucchini with mushrooms
My review: Wine was very earthy and slightly plummy but was actually very bland in my opinion. I couldn't really get a good aroma from this. It was terrible but nothing was really popping' on this one for me Chief.

The Pairing: Paired with challerhocker cheese, this cheese has a slight grain and nutty crunchy taste, which was amazing by itself. The wine didn't really do anything to boost the wine or cheese combo but also didn't hurt so this was a win-win... I guess.

My Score: 6.2/10
