Winery review:
The label reads “The Facts: One of the warmer regions on the central coast, Paso Robles produces full, juicy wines. This region is rapidly becoming known among wine enthusiasts as an appellation to look to for well-crafted wines. The Verdict: Deep aromas of chocolate, filter-brewed dark-roast coffee and ripe blackberries. A rich mid-palate owes it’s depth to a balanced structure and chewy tannins that segue into a long, lingering finish.” On the back of the label it goes on about how “Magistrate” editions are very rare and how I should buy   all of them because they won’t be made again. This particular wine was

My review: As my Friday night begins to spark up, after a terrifyingly intense week I felt inclined to hit the trail to the “Ghetto Kroger” where I do most of my wine shopping. This particularly evening I am finding myself in a Red Wine mood and mosey on past the champagnes, the whites, the Zinfandels and so forth. I begin looking in the Red Blends and see a few options that catch my eye. I stumble upon a label that is marked “ one of our favorites and it was almost 50% off, at $9.99.

Aroma analysis:
As the label stated there should be aromas of chocolate, coffee, and blackberries. When I swirl and sniff, I was met with a rather sharper sting than relaxed chocolate and coffee aroma. I did get smells of blackberries, but it was very sharp in my opinion. However, when I smell the wine without swirling it, I then get a softer aroma of coffee. The chocolate is hard for me to place in this.

Palate analysis:
This wine was very pleasant to me. It did not come on too strong, it wasn’t too dry on the tongue which is a big breaking point for me. It started off with me as the blackberries taste up front with a somewhat bitterness. The mid palate comes on with the boldness of coffee and chocolate presence and finishes with a bold smooth lingering satisfying finish.

The Pairing:
I paired this wine with a plate of sophistication only the highest branch of class college students may attain, Pizza Rolls. I found this to go quite well with my red blend wine. They complicated one another nicely, but honestly I haven’t found anything that fails to pair with Pizza Rolls.

The Peer test:
I shared this wine with both of my roommates, one of which is a seasoned wine drinker and one is new to the game. Seasoned roommate enjoyed this wine very much and enjoyed its “sweet front and not too dry, and good aftertastes.” New to the game roommate did not share our enthusiasm for this wine, however it should be noted that he is taking a large favoring to white wines, and hasn’t began to enjoy red wines yet. Maybe he will with time.

Conclusion:
This was an outstanding wine for me. I would score it 8.6/10 but thats just me. It’s not too dry, not too bitter and has a pleasant lingering after taste. I would definitely recommend you go out and buy this wine like right now as long as you haven’t drank a bottle of wine, like me.
